Every app tries to do something. It accomplishes or helps accomplish a small task or a series of small task. It either farms it out to some other human or service or a combination of both. I have often wondered, are there apps that do minimal ? Not really nothing but close to that? I mean something that is more of an abstraction and lays down the way but you have to walk in it. Like a map to a destination but you choose the routes and modes of transport. You can ask your social group for recommended routes and restaurants and experiences along the way. But something that fundamentally tells you like a good friend or a good life coach or a good mentor what to do and what not to and gives it in clear easy to follow step by step instructions with directions and completion at each level ? That would be very nice for solving complex set of problems. We feel focusing, mindfulness on any activity is similar to that. The moment you decide you are going to do something, then immediately a simple user guide or a readme document appears which exactly tells what to expect and make the whole process predictable. Post that it is just you and you alone that will determine the quality of outcome. Its a battle between your will to do it vs the other things that pull you out to not do it. Battle of wills is something that the strong relish. It pushes you harder and you push your boundaries in the process and learn and develop a new you. One that compromises and adjusts and adapts and learns patience and several other virtues, grit, pick and choose talent aspects, mix n match your mind blocks as if it were a bunch of lego blocks. Apps like focusplane and yoga apps are all geared in unlocking that productivity zone. Tools like weights for workout are in similar groupings. Same with something as basic as walking or running. They are all process oriented. And you can develop your own process such as start running slowly, then jog and then get into a zone of running continuously for x miles at the rate of y miles per hour. As this product evolves, we will try to come up with new "recipes" that will work for various scenarios and various people achieve their focussed mindset.
